Insight

Business owners and managers often believe every opportunity should be pursued. As a result, they waste valuable time and resources chasing opportunities that have low or no profit potential. At Fort Ashford Funds, we systematically analyze businesses based on five crucial areas we refer to as the Five M’s:

  • Market: A proven product or service that addresses the needs of a sizeable market.
  • Margin: A demonstrated ability to deliver the product or service and sell it at a margin that enables short- and long-term success.
  • Methods: Verifiable systems and procedures in place to consistently deliver high-quality products or services to market in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Management: Competent owners and managers who operate according to a philosophy that fosters stability; develop, implement, and oversee effective methods; develop reasonable and accurate market predictions based on fact rather than opinion; and say “no” to opportunities that the business is ill-suited or ill-prepared to pursue.
  • Mental Health: A demonstrated ability to maintain focus and stability through setbacks and success.

Testimonials

“One cannot always schedule opportunities or problems. When we had an urgent need for capital, Fort Ashford’s response was timely and they were able to solve our problem.”

–Gordon McGilton, CEO (2005-2008), Force Protection, Inc.

“After Parkview Community Hospital’s bankruptcy plan was confirmed, we were having a very difficult time finding financing to restructure. All the companies we contacted said no to us and offered no assistance with other options. When we were put in touch with Fort Ashford, we were very pleased, as they came through quickly with just what was needed. They are a company does what it says it will do, does it when it says it will do it and follows through to provide help beyond what it committed to provide. We have developed a partnership with Fort Ashford through our relationship with them and are now well on our way to building a successful hospital.”

–Patricia Lepe, Chief Financial Officer, Parkview Community Hospital
